Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I have a kindergarten student. Are there different subjects we pick for them or is it just a couple like English, Math and Science?
A: Start with 2 courses, maybe Math and English Language Arts.
Q: What if my Kindergarten is already reading? Can I enroll him/her in 1st grade ELA??
A: Typically, yes. Talk with your teacher to get more details.
Q: If my child finishes a course… can they move on?
A: Yes; however, the student must complete all courses to 100% by Feb. 20th, to be eligible to order the next level of Language Arts & Math. If the student is a 5th grader, he/she would need to wait until the beginning of a semester to register for 6th grade courses.
Q: Will we be able to make changes to the curriculum based on our child’s needs?
A: We always want to make sure that children’s needs are met. Please talk with your teacher about specific changes/ needs.
Q: Do students need to only do one lesson per day or can they do two?
A: Students may do more than one lesson per day. We would like for you to find a schedule that works best for your family while keeping on pace in your courses.
Q: Are there print materials?
A: Yes.
Q: For the printed materials, how are items shipped? Using USPS or UPS or FedEx?
A: UPS.
Q: Can materials be shipped outside of Utah?
A: Materials can be shipped anywhere in the United States, Canada, and APO.
Q: Do families have to take the printed materials?
A: No. Please let us know if you are not interested in receiving the print materials.
Q: May my child work on curriculum on weekends or must it be during the week?
A: Your child may work any day that best fits your needs.
Q: When a student submits assignments, are all assignments graded by the teacher?
A: Some assignments are graded by the teacher and some assignments will be graded by the platform.
Q: Do the materials include hands on manipulatives for math?
A: Yes within the United States, Canada, and APO.
Q: Is there a cost associated with courses?
A: No. Utah Online School is a public school.
Q: Are extra materials needed for these projects? Do I have to purchase extra materials for projects?
A: Most projects can be done with common household materials.
